Learning Elder Disciplines

-

Naturally any purchase of a superior discipline requires ST approval, but the guidelines of how many or how often are more complicated than that.

To buy one requires expenditure of the exp X 3 in man nights, Which naturally will take longer than a single month (Minimum cost 12 Exp = 36 MN a character only gets 30 personal MN in a month).

However, these things are more difficult to learn than the regular five levels (The Camarilla Guide suggests only letting player characters have one -if any- during an entire chronicle) but we think the given suggestions are a little harsh.

So, it was decided that if a character is supposed to be a very old vampire, they can potentially develop a maximum of one superior discipline per 50 years that they have been of a generation capable of learning a superior discipline level. Obviously this refers to potential, exp is still required to by them. Such 'old' characters can only purchase one discipline per year up to their maximum potential from such a background.

After that any further superior disciplines purchased are limited to the same process as -for example- a newly embraced character with a powerful enough generation to purchase superior disciplines; a diablerist that has just gained the generation to purchase superior disciplines; or a kindred on Golconda.

That process is as follows:

One superior discipline may be purchased per clan discipline once the character has sufficient traits to be able to purchase one, but these characters can still only purchase one discipline per year this way. After that the player can only purchase one further superior discipline per five years of continued play.

There is an exception to this.

If the character can secure teaching from an elder that both knows the desired discipline power and has the capacity to teach it. However this is no easy task, as the Elder must be found in character, either in game or through downtimes. The Mentor background can smooth the process a little at high enough levels, however such tuition will always carry a heavy price. For example to learn a level six power you must engage an elder that not only knows it, but also knows a level seven power in the same discipline, such creatures are exceedingly dangerous and rarely willing to share their secrets.
